Grit classifiers (sand separators) are designed to separator mineral particles larger than 0.2-0.25 mm in wastewater. They are installed on sewage treatment plants with the capacity of 100 m³/day.
Grit classifiers (sand separators) have several variants of designs:
The number of grit classifiers (sand separators) or their compartments should be no less than two. If sand removal is carried out mechanically, a stand-by sand separator is also installed.
They are used if the water consumption is more than 10 thous. m³/day. Sand separator is a tank, having a length of 0.25-1 m, where the water stream flows at a rate of 0.15-0.3 m/s. Water should stay in the tank for at least 30 seconds. The rate of particles settling depends on their hydraulic size. Grit classifiers (sand separators) with a circular movement of water, having a rounded shape, are usually used for small volumes of up to 70 thous. m³ day.
They are not able to treat large amounts of water. It is recommended to use them at a water rate of no more than 50 thous. m³/day. Such grit classifiers (sand separators) have a rounded shape.
Like the horizontal-flow ones, such grit classifiers (sand separators) are used if it is necessary to treat large volumes of water, ranging from 10 thous. m³/day. Such grit classifiers (sand separators) represent horizontally positioned tanks. When water enters the tank, the flow direction of the stream coincides with the direction of stream rotation in the sand separator. The submerged weir is used. Aerators are mounted at one of the walls along the entire length of the device. The pipes with 3-5 mm holes are used as aerators. Aerators are located at a distance of 45-60 mm from the bottom, and the tank for sand collection is mounted under the aerators. The bottom of aerator is inclined at 0.2-0.4 with respect to the chute, allowing the sand to move easily into it.
Use of them is highly inefficient, and they are used only in exceptional cases.
It is necessary to define a number of values to calculate the horizontal-flow sand separator. First, clear area should be calculated:
F = q/(v*n)
where F is a clear area of the sand separator, m²;
q is a maximum flow rate, m³/s;
v is an average water velocity, m/s;
n is a number of compartments.
Next, the length of the sand separator is calculated:
L = k*v*h1/u0
where L is a length of the sand separator, m; k is a correction factor; h1 is the depth of the flow part of the sand separator, m; u0 is a speed of particle settling, m/s; v is an average water velocity, m/s.

Upon becoming the official distributer of grit classifiers (sand separators), our company ‘Intech GmbH’ LLC (ООО «Интех ГмбХ»), carries out the following: finds the buyers of your products on the market, conducts technical and commercial negotiations with the customers regarding the supplies of your equipment, concludes contracts. Should a bidding take place, we will collect and prepare all the documents required for the participation, conclude all the necessary contracts for the supply of your equipment, as well as register the goods (grit classifiers (sand separators)) and conduct customs clearance procedures. We will also register a certificate of transaction (Passport of Deal) required for all foreign trade contracts in the foreign currency control department of the authorized Russian bank so that currency transaction could be effected. If required, our company will implement an equipment spacing project in order to integrate your equipment into the existing or newly built production plant.
