A Gearbox /bevel gearbox is a mechanism, which transforms high angular speed of the input shaft into low speed at the output shaft. Moreover, the torque on the output shaft increases proportionally as the rotation speed decreases.
A gearbox (bevel gearbox) consists of a housing, where gear wheels, shafts, shafts bearings, their lubrication systems etc. are arranged. The housing provides for safety, good lubrication, and therefore ensures high efficiency in comparison to exposed gears, for example.
Basic characteristics of speed reducers
Basic characteristics of gearboxes are efficiency, rotation speed of the input and output shafts, gear ratio, transmitted power, quantity of stages and type of gears.
The gear ratio is a ratio between the rotation speed of the input shaft and the rotation speed of the output shaft.

Description and principle of operation:
Bevel gearbox are very similar to spur gearboxes, but there is a principal difference – cylindrical gears. This type of gears has a shape of a truncated cone with teeth machined on its side surface. Meshed bevel gears are fastened on shafts, whose axes intersect each other in space. Usually the intersection angle equals 90°, but it is possible to change it by selecting other gears. The force is transmitted from one gear to another in the same way as in spur gearbox. There can be only one stage in bevel gearboxes.
Classification of bevel gearboxes:
The classification of bevel gearboxes is not that wide as in case of spur gearboxes. Still the hypoid gearbox is worth mentioning. It uses bevel wheels as well, but shaft axes are offset from each other, i.e. they are crossed but do not intersect each other. This feature allows increasing of the gear shaft’s diameter, thus providing for transmission of high forces and increase of reliability of the entire gear.
Benefits:
Since the design of bevel gearboxes and parallel-shaft speed reducers is very similar, they have similar benefits and disadvantages as well. There is no need to list them once again, it would suffice to compare them and distinguish the benefits.
The following positive aspects can be distinguished:
If the shafts of parallel-shaft speed reducers are not parallel, it is impossible to transmit the force from an engine to an operating machine. Bevel gear speed reducers are the solution for such a problem. This benefit is often critically important, since in some cases it would allow to operate without a worm-gear speed reducer, which is not so cost-effective.
Combining positive features of worm-gear and parallel-shaft speed reducers recoils on bevel gear speed reducers so they have the following disadvantages:
The efficiency of force transmission of bevel gear speed reducers is on average less by 10% than of analogous parallel-shaft speed reducers.
Bevel gear speed reducers are more susceptible to seizing because of the structural features. This is especially true for reducers with hypoid gear.
Application:
Bevel gearboxes, as well as parallel-shaft speed reducers, are widely used in various applications. They are often used in drives of various machines, lathes etc. Bevel gearboxes are particularly well suited for rotational mechanisms, since it is possible to arrange the input and output shafts at the right angle and thanks to reversibility, which is inherited from parallel-shaft reducers.
Bevel gearboxes are used for torque transmission between shafts, which are not parallel to each other and usually at an angle of 90 degrees.
The wheel rotation direction and the direction of the flank line inclination should coincide in order to avoid negative axial force, affecting on the gear, which will lead to the gear drawing into the meshing zone.
The gear ratios of single-stage bevel gear speed reducers are no higher than 3-5. The peripheral speed of the middle diameter is no higher than 5 m/sec. It is recommended to use meshed curvic gears at higher speeds. They provide for smoother running and increase the bearing capability.
Usually, the gear wheel is installed between supports, and the gear is mounted in cantilever fashion.
This type of gearboxes combines a bevel gear and a parallel-shaft gear, which are installed in a single housing.
It is recommended to make the high-speed stage as a bevel gear, since it has low bearing capability and therefore large overall dimensions as opposed to the parallel-shaft gear (provided other factors are equal). If overall dimensions are not critical, then it is possible to use the bevel gear in other stages.
While selecting the teeth direction in the helical gear, the axial forces on intermediate shafts should be subtracted from each other.
The gear ratios for two-stage reducers are usually within the range from 7 to 28. Higher values can be obtained if straight bevel gears or curvic gears are used. Three-stage reducers can have the gear ratio of up to 150.

Should a bidding take place, we will collect and prepare all the documents required for the participation, conclude all the necessary contracts for the supply of your equipment, as well as register the goods (gearboxes) and conduct customs clearance procedures. We will also register a certificate of transaction (Passport of Deal) required for all foreign trade contracts in the foreign currency control department of the authorized Russian bank so that currency transaction could be effected. If required, our company will implement an equipment spacing project in order to integrate your equipment into the existing or newly built production plant.
